Magic Johnson Advises Anthony Edwards To Get Educated On Past NBA Greats By His Father

Buy Now

Anthony Edwards claiming Michael Jordan was the only skilled player in the 1980s and 1990s sparked massive outrage, with fans, analysts, and former players joining forces to criticize the Timberwolves star. Unlike others, Magic Johnson did not dignify the guard’s comment by defending his era and instead dismissed his credibility. He has now doubled down and told him to ask the patriarchs of his family about that era.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host asked the Hall of Famer about Edwards’ comments. He named a slew of superstars from the 20th century and claimed that he should have asked his father or grandfather about them before giving his ill-advised opinion about that era. He said,

I think he should have asked somebody, maybe his father or his grandfather about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dr. J, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins, we had some of the most dominant players that have ever played.”

Johnson then targeted Edwards’ penchant for trash-talking and took a brutal jibe at the Timberwolves star. He said,

“You might want to talk trash when you won something. You haven’t won anything.”

The five-time NBA champion’s rebuttal was similar to his initial response to Edwards’ comments on the Stephen A. Smith Show. Back then, he attacked the lack of silverware in the guard’s trophy cabinet, saying,

“He didn’t win a college championship, I don’t know if he even won a high school championship.”

While Johnson has been extremely dismissive, his friend and fellow Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas took the standard approach of trying to educate Edwards. In a post on X, the two-time champion with the Pistons said,

“Propaganda works, so be careful what you choose to believe.”

Edwards hasn’t revoked his statement, apologized for his comments, or addressed the criticism. The Timberwolves are scheduled to have their Media Day on Monday and reporters will finally get the opportunity to ask the young guard to share his thoughts on the stark criticism he has received for his comments about basketball in the 1980s and 1990s.

Liam Lawson Salary: How Much Will the Kiwi Driver Earn at RB?

Buy Now

Red Bull junior Liam Lawson has finally received his first full-time F1 contract after RB announced Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from the team effective immediately. Lawson will partner with Yuki Tsunoda for the rest of the 2024 season and into 2025.

Lawson‘s cameo last year for the Faenza-based team garnered a lot of positive responses within the paddock and from fans. Naturally, many are left wondering how much will the Kiwi driver earn at RB.

While no official communication is out from either Red Bull or RB, paddock insiders suggest a substantial paycheck for the 22-year-old. The New Zealand Herald claims that Lawson could earn between $5 million to $10 million with Red Bull’s sister team.

Lawson’s current role within the team, as their reserve driver, is seeing him earn between $100,000 and $500,000. However, this deal isn’t as sweet as it sounds on paper.

Reserve drivers are usually asked to pay their own travel bills, among other expenses. But his current F1 deal with Red Bull will see him jump into an elite list of the highest-paid Kiwi athletes.

Lawson becomes second highest-paid Kiwi athlete after Red Bull F1 deal

Lawson’s RB contract has guaranteed him a spot with national legends such as Steven Adams, Chris Wood, and Israel Adesanya. As per paddock rumors, his salary with the Faenza-based team will help him become the second highest-paid athlete in New Zealand.

The 22-year-old has also jumped a few prominent sports personalities with his latest move. For instance, Adesanya and Wood will both earn less than Lawson.

That being said, the top spot on the list is still held by Adams. The 31-year-old currently earns 20 million New Zealand Dollars which roughly translates to a paycheck of $12,640,600.

McLaren Boss Explains Why Lando Norris Failed to Lead After Starting From Pole Position

Lando Norris has been under scrutiny for his poor starts off the line that eventually cost him the opportunity at race wins. The most recent example was the Italian GP. However, the Briton has improved in the last couple of races. McLaren boss Andrea Stella revealed the reason behind Norris’ poor starts.

Before the 2024 Dutch GP, Norris failed to convert any of his pole positions into wins. The Briton didn’t lead the first lap at any point this season when he started on pole. He failed to maintain his position into turn 1 on most occasions and lost positions to Piastri and Leclerc in turns 4 & 5 in Monza.

Singapore was Norris‘ first dominant race from pole position where the Briton led every lap from the start to the end. Stella revealed how the team worked super hard along with Norris to improve the start. He mentioned that the poor starts weren’t only down to Norris, but because of a few errors made by the team.

As per Autosport, Stella said, “There were some opportunities in terms of execution of the start, but we recognize that that was also on the team side.” He added, “So, I think while at first value, it looked like Lando had a significant opportunity there. Actually, the facts weren’t so clear.”

Stella explained how Russell would’ve gotten past Norris in Spain irrespective of his good or bad start. On the other hand, he pointed at an error at the Dutch GP where “both cars had cold tires because of an issue from a team point of view”, resulting in a poor getaway for Piastri and Norris.

The McLaren team boss explained how Norris focused on starting from pole and gained confidence and familiarity with it. As he did, the Brit started, “understanding, even in terms of territorial defense, what you need to do, even to dissuade people from going [for the lead].”

Similarly, Norris faced a lot of criticism for not winning a single race in F1 but it all changed this year at Miami. The Brit learned from his mistakes, and since Miami, has won multiple races.

Helmut Marko Dubs Max Verstappen’s Protest Against FIA ‘A Positive Influence’ on Young People

Buy Now

While Max Verstappen dominated the spotlight at the Singapore GP last weekend, it wasn’t due to his racing performance. Instead, he made headlines after the FIA imposed a community service punishment on him for swearing during Thursday’s press conference.

Unsurprisingly, Verstappen was unhappy with the punishment he received and protested by giving one-word answers during the post-qualifying press conference. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko believes that the Dutchman’s protest is likely to have “a positive influence” on young people.

While speaking to Formule1, Marko said, “Max stands behind his values. He can’t just ignore it when he feels he’s being treated unfairly, and he’s talking about it. This can also be interpreted as a positive influence on young people. ‘Always stay true to your values’ could be the message“.

Marko’s remarks are particularly interesting given that the FIA banned swearing to shield young fans from hearing such language from their role models. This entire fiasco began when Verstappen expressed his frustrations with Red Bull’s RB20 during Thursday’s press conference, stating that the “car was f*****” in Baku.

Why did the FIA punish Verstappen?

A day before Verstappen swore during the Singapore GP pre-race presser, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem had warned all drivers that the governing body would punish them if they used cuss words. However, Verstappen did not take the warning too seriously.

As a result, Verstappen swore during the press conference when asked to explain why he and Red Bull were struggling to match McLaren recently. By ignoring the ban, the FIA decided to penalize him by asking him to do community service.

When asked for his thoughts on the punishment, the Dutchman labeled it a “silly” decision, insisting that this is not the direction he wants F1 to take. To protest, he provided short answers during the press conference and opted to interact with the media personnel after the post-race event had concluded.

With Verstappen taking the time to answer all of the media’s questions outside the press room, it was clear he was eager to express his displeasure with the FIA’s punishment. He garnered support from both Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris, who were confused with  the FIA’s ruling.

Hamilton even suggested that Verstappen should not participate in the community service mandated by the FIA, stating that if he were in Verstappen’s position, he would choose not to attend.

Failed Drink System in Mercedes F1 Car Left Lewis Hamilton Thirsty in Singapore’s Sweltering Heat

Buy Now

The Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton decided to skip their post-race media duties after the 2024 Singapore GP. The team explained that their drivers had suffered immense exhaustion after the 62-lap race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Now, Hamilton has revealed what worsened his condition in the cockpit of the W15.

In a video doing the rounds of X (formerly Twitter), the #44 driver explained how he really wanted to drink water during the race. Mainly because the Singapore GP is often run under sweltering conditions and high humidity. This means that the drivers feel a lot of heat inside the cockpit and lose a lot of hydration.

However, a fault with his drinking system in the car meant the Mercedes man went without any fluids throughout the race. Hamilton said, “I haven’t drunk once this year, but this weekend, I wanted to, and it didn’t work. I was so thirsty.”

This situation was eerily similar to what Kimi Raikkonen once faced at the 2018 Hungarian GP. The Finnish driver repeatedly asked his race engineer whether his drinking tube was connected to the bottle or not.

As the Ferrari crew had forgotten to connect it, the engineer tried to explain the same, much to Raikkonen’s confusion. What followed was a hilarious exchange and the infamous radio message, “No, Kimi, you will not have the drink”.

As for the seven-time world champion, he stated that he hardly drinks water during any other race. At times, his engineer Peter Bonnington reminds him to drink. But the demanding conditions of the Singapore GP pushed him as well to give up his habit of not drinking.

Why is the Singapore GP so taxing for the drivers?

Hamilton’s plight after the Grand Prix was similar to what almost all drivers faced after the race. During the post-race interview, David Coulthard even poured water over Lando Norris’ head to relieve the Briton a bit. Many other drivers like Fernando Alonso and Franco Colapinto were exhausted and dehydrated after the event.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Kym Illman F1 (@kymillman)

This boils down to the unique challenge that the Marina Bay Street Circuit has to offer. Firstly, the track layout consists of shorter straights and a more complex series of corners. This means that drivers pull higher g-forces consistently.

To add to this, the humidity last weekend reached a peak of 70% and the temperatures were within the window of 30-32°C. Normally, the Singapore GP sees drivers lose up to 3-4 kgs of body weight due to loss of sweat and dehydration.

Russell had even admitted that he had to undergo a grueling month-long preparation — specifically for the Singapore GP. Despite that, the Briton opted out of the media duties owing to immense exhaustion after the race.

Shannon Sharpe Reminds Stephen A. Smith How ESPN Undermined Caitlin Clark’s Talent

Buy Now

Caitlin Clark has concluded her first regular season in the WNBA, exceeding all the expectations placed on her. However, the Indiana Fever star received a lot of flak from former players and analysts throughout the year. Therefore, ESPN’s Shannon Sharpe called out Stephen A. Smith and other ESPN contributors for the treatment Clark continues to receive despite her historic rookie season in the WNBA.

Sharpe went on a passionate rant on First Take, calling out all the haters who have tried to downplay Clark’s impact on the league on the ESPN network. Following her historic season, he hopes their attitude shifts. Sharpe said,

A lot of this noise came from people that were sitting in this network [ESPN]. They tried to minimize her [impact].”

Sharpe pointed out that a lot of people at ESPN tried to question the coverage Clark received throughout the year. Instead, they wanted the attention to shift to veteran players who came before CC.

Sharpe said that the focus on Clark was never intended to be a slight on other players. But there was no justification for trying to undermine Clark’s historic impact on the WNBA after watching the unbelievable spike in ratings, attendance, and jersey sales.

Caitlin Clark is box office. She’s doing this. And instead of giving her credit, y’all trying to make it about, ‘Oh, y’all poo pooing the old guard…’ Nah, I ain’t gonna let it slide,” Sharpe added.

There hasn’t been a female basketball player who has garnered the same attention that Clark has. Many former players like Sheryl Swoops have tried to discredit Clark’s amazing achievements.

However, Sharpe didn’t hold back calling out his employer, ESPN. He critiqued the voices that used the platform to spew words of jealousy and discredit the rookie sensation.

Despite Clark continually achieving great things in her rookie season, the narratives weren’t always in her favor.

Instead, people have continued to point out her flaws such as her turnovers or her team’s poor record early in the season. However, that never stopped Clark.

She proceeded to lead the WNBA in total assists and set the single-season assists record. Clarke shattered the rookie scoring record set by Seimone Augustus as well.

She was even fourth in MVP voting. To cap off her season, Clark was unanimously voted the WNBA Rookie of the Year.

Sharpe pointed this out and said, “Caitlin Clark unanimous Rookie of the Year. What’s even more impressive, she’s All-WNBA First Team.”

Most importantly, Clark impacted her team’s winning. The Fever clinched their first postseason appearance since 2016. Following eight years of rebuilding, Clark turned the franchise around in her first year with the franchise.

After a historic season such as this, Sharpe believes that Clark deserves more respect for her performance. The Superstar guard is only 22 years old and will only get better.

“About to See What Thibs Is About”: Gilbert Arenas Predicts Adjustment Year for Knicks Following Summer Trades

Buy Now

The New York Knicks have raised expectations after a brilliant performance during the 2023-24 season. During the offseason break, they gave away four unprotected first-round picks to add two-way star Mikal Bridges to the lineup. This addition has further sparked hopes for their first championship since 1973.

The onus is now on Head Coach Tom Thibodeau to take his team to the promised land. But the task can be complicated.

The Gil’s Arena crew debated if the added depth after Bridges’ inclusion would make Thibodeau’s job easier. Rashad McCants opined that the inclusion of the two-way star will be a boon for the Knicks.

He accepted that coach Thibs would have to make major adjustments to his rotations from last year, but he believes things would work out just fine considering the talent pool.

On the other hand, Arenas believes that Thibodeau will have a hard time allotting minutes because of the logjam at the off-guard and wing positions. It can mean delayed success for the roster.

Currently, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, and Mikal Bridges occupy those positions. All of them are starting-level players, making it hard for Coach Thibs to assign any one of them a bench role.

Arenas pointed out that earlier Thibodeau didn’t have to think twice before giving Josh Hart 40+ minutes almost every game. But now, he will have to attribute minutes carefully so that his key players don’t feel snubbed.

Thus, for Arenas, this season will test coach Tom Thibodeau’s coaching abilities to the max. He relayed,

Now he [Thibs] has to come up with an actual game plan. Like now he has to coach because you have a team now. Now we’re about to see what Thibs is about. He might not be ready to make decisions that he never had to make.”

Thibodeau loves giving his starters mega minutes and isn’t known for managing the bench minutes well. This is why Arenas is skeptical about his success in managing a deep roster.

However, there are plenty of reasons for the veteran coach to be excited about.

Will the Villanova connection pave the way for something special?

The quartet of Bridges, DiVincenzo, Jalen Brunson, and Hart won the 2016 NCAA Championship together for the Villanova Wildcats. They are once again reunited with the Knicks now.

Thus, the core of “Nova Knicks” comes in with established title-winning chemistry.

The addition of Bridges further bolsters the defense since the team already had elite defenders in Hart, DiVincenzo, and OG Anunoby.

Bridges also provides them with shot-creation skills, something the Knicks dearly missed during the 2024 playoffs after their key offensive option Julius Randle got injured.

Apart from that, their fastbreak game can also be lethal considering the presence of multiple athletic players in the frontline.

However, there can be some chemistry issues especially early on. Randle looks the odd one out in the new-look Knicks. This offseason he has been left behind in Knicks’ plans, which means that they may have to trade him soon.

Despite such issues, the two-way promise of the Nova Knicks makes them a strong contender to take down the 2024 champions, Boston Celtics in the East. But as Arenas said, coach Tom Thibodeau’s approach will determine how far they will go.

Report: Nick Sirianni Uses Conor McGregor as Extra Push of Motivation for the Team After Loss to the Falcons

Buy Now

Nick Sirianni, head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, is on the hot seat! His team started last season with a 10-1 record, but they couldn’t maintain their footing and were ousted in the first round of the playoffs. The 2024 season hasn’t started well either, as the club fell short against the Falcons last week. So, Sirianni has decided to go all out for their Week 3 matchup.

Ahead of their hotly anticipated bout against the Saints on the road, the 43-year-old head coach made it very clear what the team’s goal must be this week. And he did so by showing his team a video of MMA boxer Conor McGregor’s video, discussing growth through adversity.

The NFL franchise that doesn’t want to fall to a 2-1 record must remember: “Attack, attack, attack,” as relayed by the head coach.

It’s quite clear as to why Sirianni chose McGregor as the last push that the Eagles need. The three-time UFC champ has time and time again showcased his commitment to doing better. He has preached constant improvement and a mindset that welcomes growth.

That said, Sirianni has previously admitted that he showed his team a video from 1993 of the Eagles to showcase what team unity looks like, as per Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks on X.

Clearly, the head coach isn’t leaving any stone unturned to nudge the team in the right direction. However, not everyone has the same opinion, especially former Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Former Eagle DeSean Jackson expresses disappointment in his team

DeSean has always been loyal to the Eagles — the team that selected him in round 2 of the 2008 draft. But he seemed quite happy with how his former club has performed over the years. He seems particularly frustrated with how they lost the Super Bowl to the Chiefs in 2022.

“This Eagles team, it’s like a heartache… If we go back to the Super Bowl (LVII), yes, we played against Patrick Mahomes, yes, we should have won. But you can’t live off should have, would have, and could have,” he said on The 25 10 Show.

The three-time Pro Bowler believes that his former team is currently trying to live up to the hype they created when Jalen Hurts led the Eagles to the Super Bowl. However, he argues that when it comes to showcasing brilliance on the field against winning teams; they have repeatedly failed.

In making this point, DeSean indirectly hinted that Sirianni hasn’t done a good job leading the team to victory when it matters:

“So, what I’m seeing right now from the Eagles is, they’re like in between. They are great players but they haven’t learned how to win great. Little things like that, there’s no way great teams and great coaches allow that to happen.”

It’s quite evident that the Eagles have a lot to prove this year. Going to the Super Bowl and losing comes with great “heartache,” as DeSean said. And it can only be alleviated if Jalen takes the Eagles all the way this year.

Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris Lend Support as Max Verstappen Rebels Against FIA’s Punishment

Buy Now

After Max Verstappen swore during the Thursday Press Conference before the 2024 Singapore GP, the FIA punished the Dutchman with an obligation “to accomplish some work of public interest” — a sort of community service. This came after the FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem requested Formula One Management to curb drivers’ cussing on live TV. Verstappen’s response to the reprimand he received was to stage a protest during the post-qualifying Press Conference earlier on September 21.

The #1 driver only kept his answers limited to one or two words. In fact, other than the first question, the 26-year-old refused to properly answer any question posed to him by Tom Clarkson.

When asked about his qualifying performance, Verstappen explained how P2 was a very good result and thanked the team for getting the RB20 in proper qualifying trim. But when asked to elaborate on the changes the team made to his car from Friday, he replied,

“No, I might get fined or an extra day [of community service].”

Clarkson then went on to question Verstappen about his expectations from the Grand Prix on Sunday, to which the three-time world champion only responded with one-word answers. However, he did make it clear that he had nothing against Clarkson or any of the other journalists.

“This is not towards you, don’t worry. I don’t want to upset you,” said Verstappen. When the floor was then opened to the other journalists, Verstappen asked them to meet outside where he promised he would answer their questions. This led to pole-sitter Lando Norris trying his hardest to hide a smile.

As per Sky Sports F1, the Dutchman did indeed keep his promise as he did answer the journalists outside the press conference room. He even told Sky, “It’s just ridiculous to get a penalty for that. It’s not the right way to go forward in our sport.”

Norris and Lewis Hamilton jump to Verstappen’s defense after FIA’s penalty

While Verstappen wasn’t in the mood to answer the journalists’ questions during the press conference, the media then turned to Norris and third-placed Hamilton for their views on the Dutchman’s penalty. The duo maintained their support for the Red Bull man whilst slamming the FIA’s decision.

Norris began by joking that Verstappen deserved it. However, immediately after he did explain that the decision to hand Verstappen community service was a step too far. “I think it’s pretty unfair. I don’t agree with any of it.”

Hamilton, on the other hand, even suggested that Verstappen should refuse to abide by the FIA’s decision. He was quoted as saying, “I think it’s a bit of a joke to be honest. This is the pinnacle of the sport. Mistakes are made. I certainly won’t be doing it (community service) and I hope Max doesn’t do it.”

Tom Brady Explains Why Drake Maye Shouldn’t Be the Patriots’ Starting QB — “Watch A Veteran Do It”

Buy Now

After the Patriots’ disastrous show against the Jets, the team management is facing a massive dilemma: Give Brissett another try or pass the role to Drake Maye. While most of the NFL analysts are busy writing off Brissett, the most successful Patriot ever, Tom Brady has a different opinion.

In the week 3 game, Maye made his debut for the team in the final minutes and threw four passes for 22 yards along with two rushing attempts for 12 yards. The debut wasn’t anything extraordinary but Brissett’s bad form has frustrated the team management enough to consider a change in the lineup.

While talking about the rookie, Brady claimed that a premature decision to give Maye the starting role would only hurt the rookie’s future in the league. In his opinion, any young quarterback needed to learn the tricks of the trade from a veteran in their first year to succeed in the NFL. He said:

“It is best in my opinion for young quarterbacks/ rookie quarterbacks to kind of watch a veteran do it.”

“So when you have a real pro in front of you, they can help with that learning curve even though the young QB is not going out and losing confidence in his abilities,” he added.

He further elaborated that watching Drew Bledsoe play was a crucial learning experience for the young Tom Brady as it helped him learn how to process all the information while in the pocket and make a call.

In 2001, a rookie Tom Brady was the backup to Drew Bledsoe but he took the field only when Bledsoe suffered a major injury mid-season. However, Brady’s impressive performance was enough to take the team to the playoffs and get a permanent nod from Belichick and Robert Kraft.

He also claimed that he wasn’t the only one who gained from working under a veteran QB. He further gave examples of Aaron Rodgers with Brett Favre and Patrick Mahomes with Alex Smith in their rookie years. Based on Brady’s theory, Maye doesn’t look prepared to face the challenges that lay ahead.

Drake Maye Reacts to His Patriots Debut

In the Jets game, the only highlight for the Patriots was Drake Maye entering the playing field to a loud cheer from the fans. The young quarterback was equally excited and in his post-game interview, he said that even though nobody wants to make a debut in a ‘blowout loss’ the overall experience was fun.

He added that nervousness caught him in the beginning but the overall atmosphere of the stadium and fans cheering the team made it a thrilling experience.

Since Brady left, the Patriots have never been the same. Their quest to find their next franchise quarterback made them pick -‘safe’ Brissett for the 2024 season while Maye gets some experience. But now with Brissett’s lackluster game, Maye might get the call to lead the team.

“Wanting to Clap Back”: Angel Reese Describes How Winning a National Championship Influenced Her Social Media

Angel Reese shot to fame overnight after the infamous 2023 NCAA National Championship Final between Iowa and LSU. While she was lauded for her terrific performance, her unprovoked mocking of Caitlin Clark during the game garnered the most attention. Her brash behavior helped her gain notoriety on social media. However, it also came with its challenges.

During her conversation with rapper Latto on the Unapologetically Angel podcast, the center shed light on the vitriol she faced after that game. The 22-year-old claimed she became a target for detractors and faced a barrage of criticism online. However, resisting the urge to respond was the frustrating part of the whole ordeal. Reese said,

“Since I won a national championship and everything happened when I got in your video, photo shoots, everything, I had become this celebrity and everybody in my business now… Like, I be wanting to clap back but I can’t… Even when people on social media be making fake news about me.”

The young center made it no secret that the majority of the hatred came from Clark’s fanbase and revealed that it continues to be the case to this day.

Angel Reese calls out Caitlin Clark’s fans

Reese mocking Clark in the 2023 NCAA National Championship Final birthed a rivalry unlike any other that women’s basketball had seen. The guard got her revenge in the Elite Eight stage of the 2024 NCAA Tournament, but their rivalry didn’t end there and, like the duo, has transferred seamlessly from college basketball to the WNBA.

However, the slew of detractors that Reese garnered in college have also followed her to the league. On an episode of the Unapologetically Angel podcast, the center explicitly called out Clark’s fans for the racist and sexist abuse they’ve hurled at her on social media. She said,

“I think it’s really just the fans, her fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans, that are really just, they ride for her, and I respect that, respectfully. But sometimes it’s very disrespectful. I think there’s a lot of racism when it comes to it.”

Reese’s ordeal prompted her to take part in an anti-bullying campaign called, ‘Block The Negativity Post Up Positivity.’ Explaining how it would help her, women’s basketball icon Sue Bird said on the A Touch More podcast,

“So, part of what Angel Reese is getting into is, I don’t know if it’s a program or what, but it’ll be AI (Artificial Intelligence) helping block all the hate speech. I love this.”

The young center has already experienced the ugly side of fame. She has coped well so far and is taking measures to ensure that continues to be the case.
